When “Doing Nothing” Was Everything: How Trust, Feelings & Somatic Release Became My Breakthrough

When “Doing Nothing” Was Everything: How Trust, Feelings & Somatic Release Became My Breakthrough

November 12, 20254 min read

There are months when you feel like you accomplished nothing, right? I just came out of one of those — an October that felt like a month and a half. I had big plans, lists, goals… and then instead: rest, pause, flow. In this post I’m sharing what I learned: about trusting timing, seeing patterns of “love bombing,” speaking your truth, battling toxic positivity, and ultimately the creation of a somatic-release container I call The Clearing. Because sometimes what looks like “nothing” is actually everything.

1. The Pressure to Produce & the Trauma of Hustle

As someone who’s always accomplished, always checked boxes, I recognized a deeper current: trauma-driven productivity. I felt if I wasn’t doing, proving, achieving — I had no value. In the video I talk about how October up-ended that system: the hand in front of me telling me to stop.

When you’re wired to perform, you may skip over what’s really happening within. The crush of motion can hide the whisper of your nervous system saying: “Hey — feel this.”

2. Trusting the Timing of Your Life

I kept saying to myself: “I trust the timing of my life.” Because forcing never feels right. Research backs it: somatic therapy practitioners describe how the body holds unresolved emotional experience and trauma. Harvard Health+2PMC+2

What I realized deeply: I don’t have to control or push everything. I can let the timing roll. I can rest — and work will show up.

3. Rest While You Can — Work is Coming

One of the big lessons: if you feel the need to slow down, it might be your body clearing space for what’s coming. I talk about how I shifted: instead of pushing, I listened. Research on somatic practices shows strong benefits: for example, somatic modalities have been linked to reductions in chronic pain and improved regulation of nervous-system symptoms. PMC

Rest became strategic, not lazy.

4. Don’t Settle: Love Bombing, Fast-Forward Relationships & Boundaries

In the video I share a pattern: fast-moving relationship dynamics, “love bombing,” skipping to the end. When you’re healing, you start to see: why the rush? Who’s avoiding the pace you need?
And then I realized: I’ve allowed the pace to override my boundaries.

Part of the healing is naming what I’m unhappy with — early. I say it in the video: use your words. Even if you “don’t want to rock the boat,” you can say something early.

Because when we don’t, we wind up “pokeable” — like I reference with the napkin that finally drops.

5. Healers Need Help Too

Yes — even me. Even you. If you are a healer, a facilitator, someone who holds space for others — you carry the load, too. I recognized: I have blind spots. I might facilitate others’ release, but I may skip over my own… because I think I “should” already be healed.

Research confirms: suppression of emotions — especially anger — has real health consequences. One study found that habitual anger suppression is associated with higher depressive symptoms and lower life satisfaction. PMC+1

This is why I designed The Clearing: for us. The soft, safe place to feel.

6. The Toxic Positivity Trap & the Gift of Feeling

I’m the “most optimistic person you’ll meet” — and that’s a gift. But there’s a flip side: skip the feeling so you can stay “positive.” In the last week I actually sat with the anger, frustration, jealousy, “How dare you” energy.

Because when you bypass, you bury it… and it keeps making noise in your body.

Research: suppressed anger is linked with chronic pain, higher stress, even cardiovascular risk. PMC+1
So we don’t just feel to feel. We feel to release. We feel to clear space for what’s coming.

7. Why I Created The Clearing

After all this: the pause, the patterns, the feeling, the release — a new series sparked.
The Clearing = virtual weekly sessions, pay-what-you-can, recorded so you have access.
First topic: Releasing Anger Around Parents & Upbringing.

Because if you walk into 2026 with old energy hanging around — you’ll be smaller than who you could become.

8. Practical Tools for You Right Now

  • Journal: “What did I really feel this week that I dismissed?”

  • Breathwork or movement: somatic therapies suggest body‐movement, brain-body connection matters. Somatic Therapy Partners+1

  • Speak your truth: even in small ways. “Hey, I noticed…”

  • Rest & integrate: when you feel the slowdown, don’t fight it. Let it be part of the process.

If you’ve felt like you did nothing but ended up something, you’re in the right place. The growth happens in the unseen, the embodied, the felt.

Let’s slow down. Let’s feel. Let’s release. And let’s make space for the incredible that’s coming.

If you’re ready for the next step — to feel, express, release — I’d love to see you in The Clearing: https://catherinestoring.com/the-clearing
